About this Exploration: ![]() ![]() "Qui Vincent Debet Pugnare" Literally translates to "He who would conquer must fight." This was the moto for the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps. Great Bend's "historic wonder" was a youth organization known throughtout Kansas, the United States, and much of Canada, as "the Rebels", "Argonne", or the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps.
The corps was formed in 1947 and served as an ambassador of Great Bend and Barton County for over four decades. Nearly 3,000 youths (ages twelve to twenty-one) passed through the membership ranks of Argonne and its feeder corps, the Rebel Heirs. At it's peak in 1973, Argonne marched 129 young men and women, with an adult field staff of 17. Ninety percent of the corps membership was raised in Great Bend and Barton County.
