About this Exploration:  Kinsley, Kansas, earned the name "Midway USA" in 1939 when it was featured on the Saturday Evening Post cover showing two cars, starting in Kinsley and going in opposite directions, both bearing a sign saying "World's Fair or Bust." In 1939, there were two "World's Fairs": an eponymous one in New York, and the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco.
But this phrase has a two-fold meaning. At the turn of the century, six families from the area started large traveling carnivals, hence "Midway" graces the shingle of many businesses and has inspired murals and even a Carnival Museum here.
 The sign and park are located at the juncture of U.S. 50 and 56 on the west edge of Kinsley. The park features a rest stop complete with picnic tables, bathroom facilities, and playground equipment. While you are there check out the steam engine and antique farm machinery. All of this is available at no cost and open to the public 24 hours a day.
