Young Men's Christian Association or YMCA is a welfare movement that began in London in 1844 and now has branches all over the world including a location right here in Mankato. Well, that is until it shut down years back. After many years the YMCA has been transformed into the Mankato City Library. Although the YMCA is gone, the many memories of it has not vanished by many locals.

 

The building was first constructed as the YMCA building and was also used a substitute school gym. Later, it was the Mankato City Hall and now the Mankato City Library. You can still see an old YMCA sign above the door inside the now library.
