Event Description:
"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town!"   Please join us on Saturday, November 30, 2013, when WaKeeney is magically transformed into a holiday wonderland.   This one-of-a-kind display features over 6,800 twinkling lights, 1400 pounds of fresh greenery, 1100 yards of fresh greenery roping, and approximately 3 miles of electrical wiring.   This has been a tradition in WaKeeney for 63 years.   The Christmas Tree Lighting is always held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving,.

The festivities begin at 5pm with a Soup Supper at the VFW Hall and a Living Nativity in the Courthouse Square.   Then at 6pm gather round the magnificent 35-foot tree of fresh greenery and enjoy Christmas carols.   Santa Claus will soon arrive to light the festive tree and all the other decorations.   The tree rests under a canopy of heavenly blue lights in the middle of the main downtown intersection.   Plus a four-square block area around the tree is draped with fresh greenery, handcrafted wreaths, bows, and bells, and, of course, more lights.

After the decorations are all lit, Santa will head over to the North Pole Park where he will be joined by Mrs. Claus.   Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit with all the children and handout special treats for all the good little boys and girls.   Throughout the evening enjoy carriage  rides and shopping in the downtown stores.   This annual tradition is considered the largest Christmas tree and lighting display between Kansas City and Denver.   Come and relive your childhood memories or make new ones!
