Kansas Quilt Walk & Great Bend Mural ProjectAddress:
downtown Email Address: information@visitgreatbend.com About this Exploration: Quilts have traditionally allowed American women to express themselves through needlework and pattern. The Quilt Walk is a tribute to those creations.
You'll find quilt patterns in the sidewalk on the courthouse square. Self-guided tours and maps are available at the Great Bend Visitor Bureau and inside the Barton County courthouse.
Public art makes Great Bend's city landscape interesting. You don't have to visit a museum to find art in Great Bend. Murals are scattered throughout town.
Painted by high school students, community volunteers, senior citizens, professional artists, and children, the murals have themes relating to great Bend's past and present. Maps and locations are combined with the Quilt Walk brochure.

"Migration." This mural was completed in 1997 by Great Bend High School art students, along with D Loewenstein. It depicts waterfowl found in the Great Bend region flying over a quilt pattern of farm land.
"KANSAS." Though the exact date and origin of this pattern is unknown, it appeared in Hearth and Home magazine before the 30s. The magazine asked readers to submit their favorite quilt patterns, and this was one entered. This is just one of the beautiful patterns that you can view on the Kansas Quilt Walk tour.
