About this Exploration:  Ed Martinez, a member of the Kansas Ornithological Society since 1970, provided a tremendous amount of data on shorebirds at Cheyenne Bottoms from 1967 to 1994, all as a volunteer. During that period, he banded over 82,000 shorebirds and conducted nearly 400 shorebird surveys.
According to Brian Harrington, shorebird scientist with Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, no individual has banded as many shorebirds in the U.S. and conducted more shorebird surveys for the International Shorebird Surveys than Ed.
