About this Exploration:

The Allen County Historical Museum (ACHM) was formed in 1956 after an enthusiastic Allen County Centennial Celebration of 1955 and has since grown to one of the best local historical societies in all of Kansas.

The ACHM began inside the courthouse in one small room, but grew to five buildings including the main museum, the Funston home and museum, the Funston meeting hall and the old Allen County Jail.  The growth, from one museum room in the courthouse, to the operation of five buildings was made possible through the dedication of members and the support of the community.

The rich history of Allen County is recalled and beautiful, exciting window displays change quarterly to keep the public enticed to come visit and learn more about Allen County towns, people and countryside.  Changing displays inside and grand permanent displays fill the large building.

The Rampart House Gift Shop offers a wide selection of novelties including postcards, t-shirts, and toys.  The gift store also has a large selection of books on the history of Kansas, cookbooks and books on famous people from Allen County including Frederick Funston and Walter Johnson, just to name a few.

The Allen County Historical Museum shares the story of Allen County, Kansas. Located inside a renovated 100 year old business building, the museum houses numerous displays and artifacts, and features one of the largest collections of historic photographs in the southeast Kansas region.

Come enjoy all the museums have to offer on the history of Allen County.
