In the 30's everyone in town were asked to bring a shovel because a basement was going to be dug. Later when the Methodists decided a new church was needed, the Luray Fish Fry was created to raise money. Enough money was raised in the 60's for a new church to be built across the street. The Old Stone Church was given to the city and sat until the Luray Historical Society and Library was formed to turn the church into site that residents could enjoy. Inisde, plaster was taken down, walls sand blasted, floors re-sanded and it was born again as Performing Arts Center. Every year some of the following events are held there: an Art Show on Friendship Day, a Madrigal the first Sunday in December, and a Pickin' Picnic is held in the fall. |
